The White Lotus S3E7 - Killer Instincts

The viewing experience of The White Lotus' third season has been an interesting one as like with each season I have enjoyed the weekly viewing of a new episode and in my case usually rewatching the previous week's episode into the latest which again I took part in doing before this seasons penultimate episode titled "Killer Instincts"

After a couple of high action building episodes such as the seasons fifth episode "Full-Moon Party" this seventh chapter feels like a sort've climax of the season as we have certain plot lines reach a seeming conclusion. My problem with certain plots which culminate in this latest episode is that I wasn't totally satisfied with the tone the episode choose and also the lasting point Mike White and his writing team are trying to tell us.

I am aware plot points could be expanded upon in the season's finale but I'm speaking specifically about Rick (Walton Goggins) and how if the conclusion to seeking revenge on his fathers killer ends with this Scott Glenn moment I will question why we bothered investing our time in Rick and his always present sadness since the beginning of the series.

Less disappointing but still not fully satisfying has been the series return of Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) who finally had her big confrontation with Greg which felt as quick and painless as an early conversation could've been between the pair separate from this big party that finds many of the main characters together.

What has never disappointed me all season long and remains the best part of this episode involves our loveable chaotic female friends group. Their contestant bickering and talking about each other behind their backs finally comes in some sort of a release including some brutally delivered line deliveries by the always incredible Carrie Coon.

Ultimately I was entertained by this penultimate episode if left a little puzzled by how White is gonna bring all his characters disparate stories together. I do have confidence in the show given how ultimately satisfying the second seasons finale was even as I went into at the time with similar season long questions.

It's gonna feel odd when White Lotus ends next Sunday as I have been so thrilled by watching the season every week and discussing it with many fellow television viewers.
